"If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come In!
Come In!"

Reflection

Throughout this course I have learned a lot about international early childhood education. However, as I learned about education on a global scale, I also learned of some things that were very upsetting. Some of the consequences of learning about international education include:

1.  The feeling of helplessness to help children across the globe.
2. The realization that children everywhere do not have access to a quality early childhood education, if any.
3. The increased desire to become an advocate for children who do not have a voice.

Learning about the issues other countries have with early childhood education makes me want to step up to the plate and do whatever I can to help them out.  My professional goals include one day becoming a college professor teaching about early childhood education.  I am hoping that when I reach that goal, I can form a group where students and myself can raise awareness about the tragedies happening across the globe when it comes to children's lack of education.

  1. Hi Candace,

I too, feel helpless at times, when i think about the amount of children that need our help. But as long as we continue to advocate, we will touch as many lives as we can.

    Great post!

  2. Candace,

I think the feeling of helpless is something that is common among us. It is hard to see children suffer and not much to do. With our voices I hope that one day we will see great success in the early childhood field. Goodluck with the professional goal and I think you will do great.

  3. It is disheartening to see the ways that children are suffering throughout the world. Americans are very sheltered, and even though there are children growing up here in horrible conditions, it was shocking to see the effects of war, child soldiers, child slavery and child prostitution. Many children are living through unspeakable events and being forced to perform unspeakable acts. Knowing this is happening and being helpless is very disheartening. I think that awareness is the key, though. The more people have their eyes opened to the inhumane treatment of some children the more likely something will be done to change it.
